The Voices of Freedom brought the Mobile Recording Studio to Reading, PA on June 1, 2 and 3 for the annual World War II Weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. This marks the 4th year the VOF has participated in the event. As was the case in Carlisle two weeks prior, the threat of ran hung over the event all three days, however, for most of the weekend it held off. The Voices of Freedom participated in the 2017 Warbirds Over the Beach Air Show in Virginia Beach, Virginia on May 20 and 21. By all measures the show was a success. Interviewed at this years event were 5 World War II veterans, 1 Vietnam veteran, 1 Desert Storm veteran and 1 home front story from the Vietnam War.
The end of 2016 marks the completion of the 6th year for the Voices of Freedom Project and the second full year of the deployment of the Mobile Recording Studio, affectionately referred to as “The RV.” The RV has allowed the VOFP to travel outside the Washington DC metro area to capture stories of services members and to spread the word about the museum. The VOFP conducted 95 interviews; 40 percent were of World War II veterans, 33 percent were Vietnam veterans and the balance was divided among various other wars and conflicts.
