Warrant Officer One (WO-1) Gilbert N. Terry served with distinction in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunship commander in the 155th Assault Helicopter Company, 10th Combat Aviation Battalion, 17th Combat Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade. On August 23, 1968, near Duc Lap, Terry displayed extraordinary heroism under intense enemy fire. Despite his helicopter sustaining heavy damage and ultimately crashing, he rescued his crew and repeatedly risked his life to retrieve vital ammunition for besieged forces. For his valor and devotion to duty, Terry was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, reflecting great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.
